BALLET RUSSES - DESIGN PERSPECTIVES
This was a Project I did during my third year during my Erasmus stay at London College of Fashion. We were given a Ballet Russes theme. I always try to begin my design process by researching a certain moment of the past. I began to research the Ballet Russes, and saw a resemblence to fashion in the 1960s within many Ballet Russes silhouettes, colours and prints, especially with designs by Biba and Ossie Clarks. My work was also influenced by work of Kosume Tsumora, utilising repetition of shapes to create a set. I based my work on elongated and subtle silhouettes with a high degree of textile movements to bring dynamism. The colours are light and natural which in conjunction with hand made dye and cutting creates a rustic feel to the collection. I tried to find an intriguing aspect to the collection to mimic movements and shapes of nature.
